Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In Prayagraj, authorities initiate action against the close relatives of former MP Atiq Ahmed in connection to the Umesh Pal murder case. Bulldozers are being used to demolish the properties of Atiq's relatives, and goods are being removed from Zafar's house in Kasari Masari prior to its demolition. The Rapid Action Force has surrounded the area and the movement of ordinary people has been restricted.
Prior to the action, the power supply to the locality was cut off. Two guns were reportedly found in the house and a sword was also recovered. It is currently under investigation whether the gun was used in the murder of Umesh Pal. Officials from the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) are on the scene.
In addition to Zafar's house, the PDA is also demolishing Shaista Parveen's two-storey house in Chakia Kasari Masari. Parveen is the wife of mafia leader Atiq Ahmed and is accused of being involved in the murder of advocate Umesh Pal, the main witness in the BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case. Parveen is currently on the run with her husband and sons. The PDA claims that Parveen's house was illegally constructed and thus is being demolished.
It is important to note that Atiq Ahmed's own house in Chakia was demolished for illegal construction in September 2020, after which Parveen moved to this house. Zafar, who has half a dozen cases against him, originally hails from Banda and joined Atiq in Prayagraj.
